12th June 2006
Just over a week ago, Friday 9th June to be precise, it was Phill's birthday and as a treat myself, Wayne, Emma (Wayne's
lovely lady) and Kandi took Phill to a ceramic painting place in town. For ease of parking we pulled in to the carpark of
the Ceders Spiritualist Church on Anglesea Road where Kandi is the treasurer (head honcho) and as we were there she asked
us if we wanted to have a nose around the top flat which had just become vacant after the last tenants did a runner into the
night. (This may not be strictly accurate but considering the amount of belongings they left behind they may as well have
done a runner).
I have been going to the church for over 2 years now and have always wanted to see the upper floors of the building. The
church is in the basement you see. Kandi took us up to the 3rd floor and once we had got our breath back and stemmed the intense
sweating (it was a hot day!) we proceeded to have a good old nose around.
The flat is big. Its light and airy. Its full of sunlight. Its also in a right bloody state. Its not been decorated in
years and has no decent bathroom or kitchen. The carpets are awful, the walls covered in old fashioned embossed wallpaper.
In terms of aesthetics its got nothing going for it at all.
I asked Kandi how much the rent would be and was flabbergasted at her response. Its way cheaper than where I'm living
at the moment. When I woke up that morning I had no thoughts of moving but finding myself in a huge vacant cheap property
got me thinking. Kandi said they were going to do it up so they can get new tenants by about August/September time. New kitchen,
bathroom, complete redecoration. Now its always been somewhat of a dream for me to get my hands on an old property and do
it up and suddenly here was my chance. After a little consideration I told Kandi I would love to move in with myself and Phill
doing most of the work.
And so the hard work begins...
